As part of the monitoring activity of the progress of key components of the Phase 1 of the GTA project, a delegation from SMH visited the Kepel and Sembcorp Marine shipyards in Singapore on April 17th and 18th, 2023. The visit's objective was to see first-hand the progress of work on the Gimi floating liquefaction vessel (FLNG) and the gas treatment facility called GTA FPSO.
It's worth mentioning that Gimi is an LNGC carrier owned by Golar LNG that is being refurbished and converted into an FLNG by Kepel Yard.
The GTA FPSO is a new build designed to the best technical and environmental standards by the engineering firm Technip FMC and constructed by the Chinese Shipyard COSCO.
During the visit on both sites, the SMH delegation was able to witness the progres made so far and the measures put in place by the Operator BP to increase the pace of the construction and commissionning work. Detailed presentation on the schedules and the human and technical ressources mobilized to accelerate the work on the two assets was given to the delegation members.
The FPSO, stoping over in Singapore for the installation of additional equipment, is scheduled to resume its journey to Mauritanian waters before the end of April 2023. The voyage to the Mauritanian waters will last 10 weeks.
On the FLNG side, the work has made great progress and is progressing at pace. The shipyard has deployed about 3,000 people who are working around the clock to allow the ship to sailaway for the GTA zone in the coming weeks.
The SMH delegation, which was conducted by the General Manager, was composed of the Upstream Operations Director, the Production Lead, the GTA Project Lead and a Marine Engineer from the same department.
